Introduction and Test Setup

In the past we have performed multi GPU scaling analysis articles on various nvidia and ATI graphics cards. Continuing this trend of detailed performance reviews today's article will look at nvidia GTX 570s in single, dual and Tri Sli modes in various DX9, DX10 and DX11 titles.

The following setup was utilized for this article:

I7 920 @ 4.3 GHZ
3 X 2 GB Patriot Viper 1620 MHZ 7-8-8-20
EVGA X58 Motherboard
3 X Galaxy GTX 570 1.2 GB (Forceware 263.09)
2 X 150 GB 10,000 RPM Velociraptor RAID 0
Dell 3008 wfp 30" LCD
Antec 1200 Watt PSU
Windows 7 64 bit

Here is a list of software that we used as benchmarks :

Alien vs Predator Benchmark DX11
Batman Arkham Asylum DX9
Battleforge DX11
Cryostasis Tech Demo DX10
Crysis Warhead DX10
Civilization V Demo DX11
Dirt 2 DX11
Far Cry 2 DX10
HAWX 2 Benchmark DX11
Just Cause 2 DX10
Mafia 2 Demo DX9
Metro 2033 DX11
Napoleon: Total War DX9
Necrovision DX10
Resident Evil 5 Benchmark DX10
Stalker Call of Pripyat Benchmark DX11
Starcraft 2 Demo DX9
Warhammer DOW II Demo DX9

GTX 570

Each of the above benchmarks was run at only one resolution - 2560 X 1600. It is a known fact that if you are using powerful enough graphics cards, at lower resolutions, multi GPU benefits start to diminish. In some cases they are totally non existent at resolutions below 1920 X 1200. One would have to have a processor that is even faster than what we have today (I7 920 @ 4.3 GHZ) to see any real gains going from a single card to SLI, and especially from SLI to TRI SLI. A GTX 570 TRI SLI set up is overkill for most modern games, but seeing the sheer power of this configuration and what it is capable of, is nonetheless a topic of interest to some. OK....let us look at some results now.
